Hotel Europe St Sevrin 38-40 Rue St Severin Website  This  very central 65 bedroom hotel has been inspected but not stayed in during a visit to Paris.   Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, in the pedestrian precinct between Notre-Dame and Saint Germain-des-Pres. We were impressed with this hotel and would seriously consider the hotel on another visit.

Hotel du Jeu de Paume 54 Rue Saint-Louis-en-I’Ile. Website 4 star hotel located in the heart of the Ile Saint-Louis and nestled between the branches of the River Seine - a unique hotel. Hotel du Levant 18 Rue de Harpe Website  We also inspected this 47 bedroom, 3 star hotel, very centrally situated, just off Boulevard St Michel and close to the Seine. We were unable to stay on this occasion, but the hotel is in such a good location in the Latin Quarter, we would dearly like to try it out on our next visit to Paris. The hotel appeared clean, well presented and affordable.

Hotel La Manufacture   8 rue Philipe de Champagne Website A very reasonably priced simple hotel providing B&B facilities.  Very clean and tidy – good service and no complaints.   Metro Place d’Italie (lines 5, 6 and 7) and Les Goblins (line 7.) The hotel is not in the centre of Paris – about 8-10 stops south east on the metro to the centre. If you want to be in the centre of Paris consider one of the other recommendations. RESTAURANTS

Restaurant 1728 8 rue d'Anjou Tel. 00 (33) 1401704 77 Website A wonderful luxury Parisian restaurant near the Gardens des Champs Elysees. An superb and elegant venue for a special occasion. Highly recommended.

Les Bookinistes A Guy Savoy restaurant. Left Bank overlooking the Seine close to Boulevard St Michelle. Reasonable, but pricey wine list. Fun décor. Check opening times. Reservations advised. 53 Quai des Grands-Augustins. Tel. 01 43 25 45 94. 2 Recommendations.

La Cerisaie Restaurant 70 Boulevard Edgar-Quinet. Tel. 0033 143 20 98 98. A very small unpretentious restaurant popular with the French. We had a lovely evening in this little restaurant with our French friends. Simple restaurant - Good value

La Coupole on the Boulevard Montparnasse, 102 Bd du Montparnasse, 75014 Paris. Metro Vavin. Tel 0033 143 20 14 20. This famous restaurant is big without being brash and one of the most famous brassieres in Paris. Officially an historic monument but with a cavernous art-décor interior. 'Food gorgeous of course, and next to us two businessmen calmly picked what they wanted from a kind of huge cake stand filled with delicious shellfish. Consider ordering the groaning plateau des fruits de mer prepared at the seafood counter by men with jaunty Breton hats. Sole meuniere' is also very good'. This is a special restaurant and quite expensive Website and Review Website 2 Recommendations

L'Epi Dupin 11 Rue Dupin 6th Arrdt. 0033 142 22 64 56 A small bistro restaurant, always crowded, but good atmosphere and sophisticated menu. South of the river near Boulevard Raspail. Open Tuesday - Friday. Closed August. Nearest metro Sevres-Babylone. We have 2 recommendations but have also heard mixed reports - please check out Website for research

The following two restaurants close to Boulevard St Michelle were not sampled, but were inspected and menus studied. They looked good and worth considering another time.

La Lune Rousse Restaurant Centre of Latin Quarter close to the Hotel Levant. A restaurant specialising in fish. 19 Rue de la Harpe. Tel. 00 33 1 44 07 01 38

Restaurant Santorini 25 rue de la Harpe. Tel. 00 33 1 43 54 39 47

The following restaurants have been recommended in the Sunday Times and not personally recommended:

Au Bon Accuel 14 Rue de Monttessuy Tel. 00 33 147 05 46 11. Metro Alma Marceau Set in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The Times states that this little restaurant is curiously overlooked by 6 million tourists who visit this area. The restaurant is 'a dapper little place, modern, neat and uncluttered. Tables are close but since everyone's speaking French your neighbours soon fade into blur of unintrusive jabber. The good welcome lives up to its name and the food is excellent. Two courses with coffee and a bottle of wine and water will set you back about £50.00 for two Website

Café Marly Palais du Louvre 93 Rue de Rivoli. Te 01 49 26 06 60. Metro Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre. This is not so much near the Louvre but in it, with nothing more than a glass wall separating its salon from the sculptures of the Richelieu wing. Better still is the long row of tables on its terrace under the vaulted colonnade of the Louvre's North wing and over looking the Pyramid. It is a place to see things and be seen - but the food is serious business too. The Barley serves work of art salads, sandwiches, pasta, caviar and much more. Main courses are from £13.00 And the best views Website and Website and Cafe Website Tel. 01 49 26 06Unable to find one good website - Any suggestions please?

Au Gamin de Paris 51 Rue Veil du Temple. Tel 01 42 78 97 24. Metro PST Paul. Plenty of variations of duck - with figs and grapes, with honey, with apple sauce etc. If you do not like duck there is plenty more on the menu. Salads and superb home-made desserts. Duck dishes start at £12.00. Desserts at £4.00 A Review

Le Reminet 3 Rue des Grands-Degres Tel. 01 44 07 04 24 Recommended in Sunday Times 'a cosy shamelessly traditional and sanely priced bistro'. Nearby consider Le Bilboquet 13 Rue St-Benoit. Tel 01 45 48 81 84 Also recommended in the Sunday times 'Paris's revived jazz scene offers yet more treats offering bordello-burgundy velvet and silk with tables outside or (better still) on a balcony above the band which strikes up at 9ish' Website - Browse and Listen to the Jazz
